Financing Your Procedure

It has been recently estimated that “out of pocket expense” for patients with morbid, medically complicated obesity can be as high as $18,000 a year. This includes costs of co-pays, prescription drugs, laboratory tests, etc. Losing weight may not only help your health, it may also help your pocket book.

Not all insurance plans cover weight loss surgery. We can help you determine your coverage. If you are not covered and you have an individual insurance policy, only you can make a difference. Contact your insurance provider. If you are insured through your employer and their plan does not cover this type of surgery, call us. We will be glad to speak to your employer’s insurance office to explain how weight loss surgery can increase productivity in patients after weight loss, decrease overall medical costs and decrease the amount of time our patients have to be off of work.

If you are interested in paying for your procedure, we offer payment plans. We also are a member of Care Credit. For patients interested in the Lap-Band, Care Credit and Allergan (Lap-Band) offer specific plans for that procedure. Also, procedures such as these may be tax-deductible. Be sure to ask about this. One needs to know however, complications are part of all surgical procedures. If you choose to pay for these procedures, any other procedures needed afterwards would not be covered by your insurance. There are insurance plans that address the needs of patients who want to (or have no other choice) pay for their procedures. One such program is BLIS. We are currently in the process of helping to provide this for our patients who choose to pay for their own procedures.
